Dan grade exams
Twice a year, the UTI organises a dan grade exam. In December, in
sports centre Papendal after the morning
training, and in June, this year in Valkenswaard, during the training weekend (Sunday afternoon). The precise data are mentioned below.
To take part in an exam, you must
- master the exam syllabus,
- be in possession of a fully filled out UTI passport, which includes a
pass photo,
- have participated at least three times in a UTI training,
- hold a 1st kub grade since at least half a year,
- have permission from your instructor,
- have discussed with a UTI instructor,
- send in the completed registration form and
pay the exam fee at least one month in advance to
the secretariat of the UTI.
The exam in Valkenswaard is taken by an international committee and in Papendal by a
national committee.

Registration
In order to register for the exam,
A duly completed UTI passport with picture must be provided to the exam
committee before the start of the exam.

In exceptional cases (for example if you are new to the UTI), an
adapted exam program may be agreed with the president of the exam
committee.

Check-list
What do you have to do and when? (The time line
in the list below indicates how long before the exam you should
have completed certain steps for the Dutch Dan grade exams)?
- 6 month: succeed for 1-th kub (black tip) at your own school
or club (for the 2-nd dan exam you should have the 1-th dan at least two years,
for the 3-rd you should have the 2-nd dan at least three years, etc.).
- 4 month: make sure (plan) that you will be able to participate
in at least three UTI training sessions before the exam
(training sessions are marked in your UTI-passport).
- 2 month: check with someone of the UTI team and your teacher
to see whether you sufficiently master the syllabus to be successful at
the exam. Plan training sessions to work on weak points (if any).
- 6 weeks: make sure your UTI passport is up to date
(fill out the privat information on page 5, include a picture and sign
(this is your personal responsibility), check whether all your kub grades
have been registered in the passport (by the exam committee of your
school/club).
- 1 month: transfer the exam fee to the secretarial office of the UTI, fill out
and submit the registration form for the exam
- 30 minuts: turn in the passport to the secretary of the
dan grade exam committee.
Exams teaching degrees
The UTI takes in priciple (but depending on interest) once a year practical exams for the teaching degrees.
In order to participate in an examination for a teaching degree you must
satisfy the conditions in this link. In particular you should have
- followed and completed the UTI couse for that degree,
- at least the 2nd kub for the exam for Assistant
Instructor, at least Ist Dan for Instructor, and at least IIIrd Dan for
Teacher,

registered for the practical exam (by yourself
or by your teacher),

consulted with the teacher of the UTI-course.

Exams for the instructor degrees take place in sportcentre Papendal
after the monthly Sunday morning training. Exams
for Assistant Instructor, Instructor and Teacher will be on different
dates.
